Why Do Black Women Want To Have Straight Flowing Hair And Wear Wigs So Often?

I have seen many black women with their natural hair and they fix it real cute. Where others wear wigs. Wigs are sooooo hot in the summer and weaves take hours to complete. Why oh why would they do that?
Note: This is not a put down nor am I referring to all black women. Just a simple honest question. Am looking for a real good answer.

Because of a long standing social stigma. any and everything about blacks has been demonized in America society for hundreds of years. I know in the last 20 years or so, it has become “cool” to have African features.
Most commercials for beauty produces in the US they say to be good looking you have to have long flowing hair, be skinny, etc, etc.
By living in the US, black women try to fit into the society, and that is why they try to have the long flowing hair, etc, ect.

Yes, natural black hair is beautiful but black women like a lot of variety too and changing hairstyles for us is very time consuming. That’s when it’s easier for some to put on a wig if we’re rushed. A white woman in a hurry will just put her hair up in a ponytail or she can leave it loose and brush it and she’s ready to go. It’s not that simple for us.
Weaves and extensions are just another way to have variety and other ethnicities also use them. I don’t know many black women who stay wearing a wig or weave all the time.

    becasue its a battle struggle
black women are taught at a very Young age that Straight flowing Long hair is considered beautiful in todays media
it is Bombared that society has brainwashed us to consider what is beautiful and what is not
it also hurts to hear other black people say bad things about one’s hair, that out hair is “not good”
But “how can we not look good with the hair that is natural to us.”
I hope this video helps out and opens your eyes

Simple. Because some prefer it that way, like my mom. And no to these Pro Natural and Anti Weave people, they do not hate their hair and they are not ashamed of it. My mom for one loves her natural curly hair but she wears a weave if she wants better control, or wants it more manageable, she’s not ashamed at all of her hair, she loves rocking it natural.
In saying that, what about white women who already have this type of hair?
add: We are getting off topic, no we are not, there are a lot of answers answering your question, what you hoping for?

I wear my natural hair sometimes, But when I get bored I like to switch it up. Maybe throw some color weave mixed in with my real hair. Its all about variety and being able to switch up your look without damaging your real hair with a bunch of dyes and such. This is the reason why most black woman I know wear weaves….Now as far as the long flowing hair, You have some woman like I said that just like swicth it up and some woman who have a hard time growing there own hair and so they just buy it lol..what’s the big deal

I guess it’s because of the sense that all women want what they don’t have. Since they don’t have straight flowing hair, they may find that attractive and therefore would get weaves and extensions. For me, I’m thin and stuff, but I don’t have a lot of curves. I always look at black women and envy their curves.

White women do it too. I don’t care who does what to their appearance. If that makes them feel good, so be it. I have naturally curly hair and I often straighten it, either way it looks nice to me.
I think you have answers telling you why black women wear wigs or weaves. What reasons were you hoping for? It’s simple, they want to and can. Doesn’t mean they hate their natural hair.

Some women have short hair and just want long! Like you said wigs are hot during the summer, but I would wear one and I have long hair! Because sometimes you just don’ t feel like doing your hair and you can throw a wig on!

why do white women get tan’s and lip and butt injections? Because they want to, maybe sometimes they wear it natural sometimes they have it straight. Not all black women have short hair, some have longer hair than some white women and if you didn’t know they are not the only race with straight hair.

Its a supiriority complex. The minor cultures have to see themselves through the eyes of the dominant group, and for hundreds of years through mainstream ideals we’ve seen ourselves as less than unless we are like the dominants. They on the other hand have a God complex.

Depends on who you are talking about. Every woman will have an individual reason for why she is wearing cosmetics. Why do white women wear them, when they supposedly have ’straight flowing’ natural hair? I just want to know.

A wig or weave is usually easier to take care of and it’s easier to style.. Also if you have short hair and it’s hard to grow a wig or weave would give you the long hair you want.

Why don’t people keep their noses in their own business more often? When you point fingers at other races, no matter what you’re asking, you can expect people to get offended. It doesn’t matter what your intentions were
Secondly, just because someone wears a wig, doesn’t mean that they are doing it for those reasons. Also, since you are not black, there is no way you would know how often black women wear wigs.
